Free to visit and roam around, upper levels require a ticket. Cloakroom is also free. Museum is spacious and easy to spend several hours here.

Lovely surprise. More here than I expected. It wasn't too crowded and so that added to the enjoyment. Recommended.

Huge and fabulous. On a par with some great national collections I've visited. Warning: all captions are in French only. You'll also be knackered by the end. Poor lighting in the impressionism collection held in a narrow corridor. Gift shop had few postcard for such a large collection. Zero books in languages other than French. Rip off prices for water etc in cafe. Cheerful and helpful staff though - several came up to us and described the art in English.

It has a very interesting collection. However my experience was not that good. The audio guides that you are given (for free!) don't have the information about the exhibits that they are supposed to have. Some number on the exhibits don't correspond to any information to the audio guide. What is more the ancient ages exhibition was closed. However, the staff is very friendly and the palais is very beautiful with a wonderful collection from the middle ages and from the 17th century and later. Don't forget to visit the gift shop! Very good offers!

Beautiful museum and a vast collection of works. We visited on the first Sunday of the month, so the entry was free. The coat check was fast and secure and the clerks were very friendly (and spoke English). We could have easily spent all day admiring the collection. This is a must visit while in Lille!
